Assessment & Treatment

As Medical Director Dr Westgarth meets each new patient for an initial clinical assessment. The following areas are usually explored:

  • Concerns and details about the problems.
  • A full history is taken including screening for other mental illnesses, educational and social situation, details about early development, physical health problems and any family history of illness.
  • A physical examination may be undertaken – this is usually chaperoned by parents, is brief, non-invasive and painless. Most young people find it fun.
  • Who else has tried to help? What else has been tried? What are your goals?

Dr Westgarth will discuss any diagnosis, and propose a plan for treatment. He will let you know what your choices are and seek your preferences.

He may undertake therapy personally, or refer to other specialist Associates who can help. If Dr Westgarth is not undertaking therapy personally he will meet with you to review progress periodically, and refine the management plan as necessary.

Patient Testimonials

“The help Dr Westgarth gave our daughter lifted a dark and confused cloud from her view of life and he helped in restoring her joy for life in general, and reinstating the optimistic outlook she had previously had. His therapy was vital in her recovery. She has just received fantastic GCSE results which didn’t seem possible before we sought Dr Westgarth’s help. The coping tools he has given her will serve her well as she moves into adulthood.”
